This worksheet describes how to provide easy-to-use filters for analyses on\u00a0Snap WebHost. These allow you and your associates to quickly filter the data used in your analyses and reports. It also covers how to hide reports and analyses so they cannot be seen on\u00a0Snap WebHost.<\/p>\n

This worksheet uses a version of the crocodile survey supplied with Snap. The survey can be found in the default users\/public folder in the Survey Overview window.<\/p>\n

Background<\/h3>\n

When you design a survey in Snap for\u00a0Snap WebHost\u00a0you can set up filters that can be selected in\u00a0Snap WebHost. These can be used on the data for all analyses and reports for that survey. They are available to you and any associates that you have assigned the survey to.<\/p>\n

Note: It is possible to set up your\u00a0Snap WebHost\u00a0filters so that different associates can only see selected filters. This worksheet only shows how to set filters up so they are all available to everyone.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Creating the filters to use in Snap WebHost<\/h4>\n

  1. Click\u00a0\"results\"\u00a0on the Snap toolbar to open the\u00a0Analyses\u00a0<\/strong>window.\n

  2. Click\u00a0\"filter\"\u00a0on the Analyses toolbar to open the\u00a0Define External Filter \/ Context\u00a0<\/strong>dialog. (You can also open this dialog by clicking\u00a0\"filter\"\u00a0on the\u00a0Reports\u00a0<\/strong>window\u00a0<\/strong>toolbar.)\n

  3. Click\u00a0[Add]<\/strong>\u00a0to add a filter. The\u00a0Select Variable<\/strong>\u00a0dialog appears.<\/li>\n
  4. Choose\u00a0Q9\u00a0<\/strong>from the drop-down list and click\u00a0[OK]<\/strong>. This allows you and associates to filter results by the age of the respondent.<\/li>\n
  5. Click\u00a0[Add]<\/strong>\u00a0and select\u00a0Q5\u00a0<\/strong>from the drop down list. This will give you a range filter (of the amount spent). This will allow you to choose a maximum and\/or minimum quantity.\n

    Step 2: Checking the Snap WebHost filter in Snap<\/h4>\n

    You can only use a\u00a0Snap WebHost\u00a0filter if external filters are enabled for analyses and reports. You can turn these on and off for each analysis or report.<\/p>\n

    1. Click\u00a0\"results\"\u00a0on the Snap toolbar to open the results window.<\/li>\n
    2. Double-click\u00a0AN13\u00a0<\/strong>to display it.\n

    3. Click the\u00a0\"filter\"\u00a0on the toolbar to show your filters. You can apply them here.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Step 3: Using the filters in Snap WebHost<\/h4>\n

      As this is an example, you can upload the survey with data to your account on\u00a0Snap WebHost\u00a0rather than wait for the data to come in. If you are uploading your own survey to\u00a0Snap WebHost, upload the published survey as described in the section Upload the published survey to\u00a0Snap WebHost<\/a>\u00a0in the Getting Started guide.<\/p>\n

      1. Click\u00a0\"survey_overview\"\u00a0on the main Snap toolbar to change to the\u00a0Survey Overview\u00a0window.<\/li>\n
      2. Highlight your survey and click\u00a0\"arch_surv\"\u00a0to open the\u00a0Archive Survey\u00a0dialog.\n

        2. Upload the archived .adf file to your account on\u00a0Snap WebHost\u00a0as described in the section Upload the published survey to\u00a0Snap WebHost.<\/a><\/li>\n
        3. Open the survey on\u00a0Snap WebHost.<\/li>\n
        4. Go to the\u00a0Analyses\u00a0<\/strong>tab, and select the stacked barchart\u00a0AN13<\/strong>.\n

        7. Apply the filters you require and click the\u00a0Update analysis<\/strong>\u00a0link. The bar chart updates to show the selected data (in the example, people aged 25 – 34 who spent \u00a310 or less).\n

          You can control whether people can apply filters to an analysis on\u00a0Snap WebHost\u00a0by using settings in Snap. You can also control whether they can see an individual analysis.<\/p>\n

          1. Open your survey in Snap and click\u00a0\"results\"\u00a0to open the\u00a0Analyses\u00a0<\/strong>window.<\/li>\n
          2. Open the analysis that you want to control and click\u00a0\"var_prop\"\u00a0on the analysis window toolbar to display the analysis definition.<\/li>\n
          3. Check that\u00a0Allow additional filters<\/strong>\u00a0is selected. (Clear this to disable people from applying filters in\u00a0Snap WebHost.)\n
