The context is a variable containing a list of possible values.<\/p>\n<p>The Smart Report will automatically produce a report for each context value. This worksheet uses the sample Crocodile survey supplied with Snap. The survey evaluates a restaurant chain with four branches (two in the UK and two in the USA). The worksheet describes how to use the location as the context, allowing you to produce separate reports for each location.<\/p>\n<p>The report will consist of a title and a bar chart comparing the current location and all locations (including the current) and other locations (all locations excluding the current location). The chart will use the name of the current location in the chart labels, so the report for Bristol, UK will have a chart comparing Bristol to all locations, and the report for Boston, US will have a chart comparing Boston to all locations.<\/p>\n<p>The worksheet assumes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you are familiar with Snap<\/li>\n<li>you have created reports before<\/li>\n<li>you have a copy of the sample Crocodile survey which is distributed with Snap 11<\/li>\n<li>you have a pdf printer driver available<\/li>\n<li>you understand reports with dynamic data (as covered in the worksheet:\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snap11\/worksheets\/creating-a-smart-report-which-includes-automatic-text\/\" target=\"_self\">Creating a Smart Report which includes automatic text<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a name=\"o31660\"><\/a>Background<\/h3>\n<p>When you are creating a Smart Report, you usually want to put the most up-to-date data in the report. This data changes as more responses come in, so you must have a way of representing it that allows it to change when the data changes. You can look at all the survey data or focus on a subset that you are interested in. There are two ways of doing this:<\/p>\n<h4>Using a filter<\/h4>\n<p>This allows you to select the cases that you are interested in. For example, you might filter your data so you are only looking at the data provided by respondents over 50.<\/p>\n<p>This method is easy to set up, but means that you cannot see data that has been filtered out. For example, you would only be able to analyse the blue mouse data once a blue mouse filter has been applied.<\/p>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11849\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snap11\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/filter-mice1.png\" alt=\"filter-mice1\" width=\"349\" height=\"438\" \/><\/div>\n<h4>Using a context<\/h4>\n<p>This allows you to look at a subset of data in a group of cases which have been tagged with a value in a context variable. You can also access data without that tag value, so you can compare the tagged subset with all data.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if your context variable was &#8220;mouse colour&#8221;, you could set the context to &#8220;blue&#8221;.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snap11\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/blue-mice2.png\" alt=\"blue-mice2\" width=\"522\" height=\"184\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You would be able to analyse the data for mice tagged as blue, but you could also compare the blue mice to the other mice.<\/p>\n<p>The owner of the blue mice could get a personalised report that showed how their mice compared to the average mouse.<\/p>\n<p>By setting the context to red, you can generate a report for the owner of the red mice with the appropriate data for their mice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11857\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snap11\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/red-mice2.png\" alt=\"red-mice2\" width=\"518\" height=\"190\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The context does not just work on data. You can associate images, chart labels or report text with the different contexts, so the report look and content will change when you change the context from blue to red.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"o31977\"><\/a>Summary of steps<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Create variables for the list of items that you wish to produce individual reports for. These are your context variables. Give them meaningful names. This worksheet uses Q0 (location) as the context variable and changes its name to make it easier to understand.<\/li>\n<li>Create any derived variables needed to analyse your context data relative to other data or a benchmark.<\/li>\n<li>Create your reports, referencing the context for each item that you want to personalise.<\/li>\n<li>Set the context manually to create your reports.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div>\n<p><a name=\"o32049\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Change the name of the location variable<\/h3>\n<p>It makes life much simpler if your variables have meaningful names.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Crocodile survey supplied with Snap.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11843\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snap11\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/codes.png\" alt=\"codes\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>\u00a0on the Snap toolbar to display the\u00a0Variables\u00a0window.<\/li>\n<li>Find\u00a0<b>Q0<\/b>\u00a0in the window.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click it to open the variable details.<\/li>\n<li>Change the\u00a0<b>Name\u00a0<\/b>from\u00a0<b>Q0<\/b>\u00a0to\u00a0<b>Location<\/b>. The variable will derive its labels as well as its data from the context variable.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11837\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snap11\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/add.png\" alt=\"add\" width=\"15\" height=\"16\" \/>\u00a0on the\u00a0<strong>Variables<\/strong>\u00a0window toolbar to add a new variable.<\/li>\n<li>Specify the\u00a0Variable details:<strong>Name<\/strong>: CComparison<br \/>\n<strong>Label<\/strong>: Compare context to all<br \/>\n<strong>Type<\/strong>: Derived (the variable will derive its data from\u00a0<b>Location<\/b>, the existing location question).<br \/>\n<strong>Response<\/strong>: Multiple (each respondent will fall into two cases).<\/li>\n<li>Double click in the first code label and click the\u00a0<b>[Insert<\/b>] button. This will give the selected location as the code label. Then enter\u00a0<b>NOT(Location=Location@context)<\/b>\u00a0as the\u00a0<b>Value<\/b>. This code will be used when the response does not equal the location specified by context.<\/li>\n<li>Press [Tab] to move to the next\u00a0<b>Label\u00a0<\/b>field and enter\u00a0<b>All sites<\/b>.
