Scanning Module

Scanning Module - Scan paper questionnaires and forms. The Snap Scanning Module is an add on to Snap Professional Edition enabling users to scan in completed paper questionnaires. Snap Scanning Module is based on OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and OMR (Optical Mark Recognition). Snap will also scan in questionnaires designed in other software packages.

Questionnaire Design

  • Use supplied templates in standard Snap Questionnaire Design window to generate scannable questionnaires.
  • Alternatively, mark up your own questionnaire format generated outside of Snap.
  • Use patterns to improve the recognition of hand-printed text responses.

Data collection

  • Scan responses to paper questionnaires automatically. Automatically orients individual pages. Handles questionnaires of virtually any size.
  • Optical Character Recognition with calibration and deskew capabilities compatible with most scanners.
  • Records images of open-ended responses for later keying.
  • Includes a comprehensive data cleaning section which maintains a record of which cases have been scanned and interpreted and which have outstanding issues.
  • Reads multiple choice replies, numbers and hand-printed text.
  • Records images of open-ended responses for printing, searching, coding or keying.
  • Automatic recognition of altered/crossed out replies.

Recommended scanners for use with Snap Scanning module

We have identified a number of scanners that work well with Snap. They are from the major manufacturers in the field, namely Canon, Fujitsu and Kodak and all have automatic document feeders to hold the questionnaires. It is not a definitive list, and should be regarded as a guideline, as there are many others on the market that do also work with Snap.

We have created 3 categories based on volume of usage, from Occasional Use (up to 500 sheets/day) to Regular Use (up to 1,000 sheets/day) to Heavy Use (for 1,000+ sheets/day).

Manufacturer’s claims for speed are generally very optimistic. We have adjusted these downwards based on our experience in scanning questionnaires and the quoted Scan Speeds are based on double-sided Snap questionnaires.

For further advice on which model best suits your requirements please contact your preferred hardware supplier. When considering scanners not listed here please make sure they are supplied with an ISIS driver. Although Snap Surveys endeavours to confirm that all of the scanners listed here are fully compatible with our software it is not possible for us to check all variations within a model and its drivers.
