What's New for You in Snap 8

February 2005

There's no doubt the development of Snap 8 is the direct result of excellent work by Snap Survey's software development team but ultimately it is you, the users, who have made it possible. The feedback received over the past few years has fuelled Snap's development and driven much of the innovation that can be found in the new software.

The key user-benefit goals for Snap 8 are as follow:

  • To simplify software operation, especially in questionnaire design
  • To improve the graphical appearance of outputs such as printed and online questionnaires.
  • To improve performance in all areas, particularly of scanning.
  • To provide more advanced tools for the analysis of data
  • To improve integration between Snap survey data and data held by external programs.

These goals helped define the main areas for improvement - a few of which are highlighted below:

Questionnaire Design

The more creative and scientific questionnaire designers out there will be pleased to find Snap 8 has made the designing of professional questionnaires easier and more flexible for any medium, allowing greater manipulation of page layout, colours, backgrounds, and button designs.

Snap's upgraded design engine now incorporates new questionnaire styling, layout and structuring options. An example of the latter is the use of a powerful system called Active Routingä to enhance the setting up and maintaining of question routing.

The designing of online surveys is more sophisticated than ever with features, among others, that enable respondents to 'save and return' anytime during a response or to print out their response so far. Tools for the randomisation and rotation of questions will assist in improving reliability.

Data Entry and Management

One of the more critical developments in the new version is the ability to connect with external databases using an ODBC link. Data can be imported or exported on demand and converted into responses.

This data exchange capability can be used for valuable tasks such as the adding of mail addresses to questionnaires and email invitations to respond.

Analysis

Snap's data analysis toolset is another area where great progress has been made. Statistical tests of confidence have been added to tabulation options that include T-tests and Z-tests. Multivariate statistics can now be applied in the form of Factor Analysis and Cluster Analysis.

These additions boost Snap's credence as a serious market research application.

In summary, version 8 represents a leap forward for Snap survey software. It manages to integrate advanced technology and at the same time improve in the market-leading usability stakes that makes Snap so popular.
