Why Randomize the Order of Question Pages in an Online Survey

When given a questionnaire, the order in which the questions are presented can influence the responses given.  This is known as an order-effect — respondents spend less time reading questions towards the end of the survey as compared to the beginning.  Robust survey software solutions, such as Snap Survey Software, can not only change the order of responses for a question using the Randomize tool, but the software can also randomize the order in which a respondent views the pages of an online survey.

Many thorough satisfaction questionnaires will ask the respondent to rate numerous options over many different rating scales.  Unfortunately, the questions toward the end of an online survey tend to be skipped or not read as thoroughly and therefore can skew the survey data.  With a few clicks of the mouse, Snap Survey Software’s Randomize tool can set the pages of the online survey to be displayed randomly and improve survey response rates.
